Ian is an ex-professional footballer, born in Bradford and a City legend. He played the game at all levels, including spells at other prominent clubs including Leicester, Derby and Aston Villa. Ians favourite career memory has to be playing at Wembley 4 times, however winning with Bradford was probably the best.
Not one to sit still for very long, Ian took on the role of managing the ‘Football in the Community’ scheme, based at Bradford City FC shortly after retiring. The scheme, (now called the Bradford City FC Community Foundation) is a charity and provides a range of services and projects aimed at social inclusion, sports participation, health and education.
Ian works incredibly hard to keep the Foundation going and to anyone who thinks men can’t multi-task, just spend a day in Ian’s (rather large) shoes and you will see that it can be done ! The Foundation has flourished under Ian’s leadership, despite increasing competition from both local new football schemes as well as those from neighbouring cities and regions.
Those of you who follow Bradford City FC on the radio will also know that Ian is the clubs matchday co-commentator on Pulse Sport FM (97.5 & 102.5 FM).
When asked what piece of advice he would give to any aspiring footballer, Ian said, “Work hard and always try your best as you never know who may be watching !”
Aside from football, Ian is very involved with East Bierley Cricket club & is a keen follower of most sports, but mainly golf & snooker.
Does Ian have any musical preferences ? Yes ! Coldplay
